Psychotherapy

Therapy can help address many types of issues including depression, anxiety, conflict, trauma, grief, stress management, body-image issues, and general life transitions. Therapy is right for anyone who is interested in getting the most out of their life by taking responsibility, creating greater self-awareness, and working towards change in their lives.

Every therapy session is unique and caters to each individual and their specific goals. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Therapy to help you reach those goals. It is standard for therapists to discuss the primary issues and concerns in your life during therapy sessions. It is common to schedule a series of weekly sessions, where each session lasts around 50-minutes. Therapy can be short-term, focusing on a specific issue, or longer-term, addressing more complex issues or ongoing personal growth. There may be times when you are asked to take certain actions outside of the therapy sessions, such as reading a relevant book or keeping records to track certain behaviors.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy helps people in a close relationship help each other. It helps family members, couples and others who care about each other to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions safely, to understand each other’s experiences and views, appreciate each other’s needs, build on strengths and make useful changes in their relationships and their lives. Individuals can find Family Therapy helpful, as an opportunity to reflect on important relationships and find ways forward.

Family Therapy aims to be:

  • Inclusive and considerate of the needs of each member of the family and/or other key relationships (systems) in people’s lives

  • Recognize and build on peoples’ strengths and relational resources

  • Work in partnership ‘with’ families and others, not ‘on’ them

  • Sensitive to diverse family forms and relationships, beliefs and cultures

  • Enable people to talk, together or individually, often about difficult or distressing issues, in ways that respect their experiences, invite engagement and support recovery.

Christian Counseling

Christian counselors recognize their work as redemptive and restorative in character. The Christian counselor brings the entire counseling enterprise under the lordship of Christ and aims at reconciling the client's relationship with God. This helps the client find personal significance and meaning in his/her relationship with Jesus Christ and facilitates the restoration of human relationships.

God is our counselor, Jesus is the wonderful counselor and the Holy Spirit is our counselor. Mature Christians are exhorted to encourage others, warn the idle and help the weak. (1 Thess. 5:11;14). Most Christians who counsel believe that God is the author of all truth and that the Bible is the authoritative guide in the counseling process. Sound psychology is used to promote change and wholeness in the counseling relationship when it supports scripture, such as holding people responsible for their behavior and helping people change their thinking and behavior to coincide with truth. Christian counseling evaluates and considers the mental, physical and spiritual needs of people using a process in which the Bible is the authoritative guide.
